Amazon is having a rough start getting into game development. With their MOBA-style shooter game Crucible shuttering after just six months after the game hit beta, many have looked at their upcoming MMORPG, New World as their savior.
However, it appears that New World is not looking so hot. Initially, the game was supposed to be released on August 25th, 2020. It was delayed until Spring of this year. Well, that Spring release date is no longer valid, as Amazon has announced that New World will be delayed again.
In their latest Development Update blog post over on New World's website, the developers mention, "We've been hard at work on compelling end-game features we believe are important to include at launch. These features won't be ready for the Spring timeframe that we had communicated. With that in mind, we will release New World on August 31, 2021. With this extra time we'll be able to add these substantial improvements while polishing and fine tuning the whole game before we open Aeternum's shores to the world."
It looks like the game will be released just over a year from when it was initially supposed to be released. The new date, August 31st, 2021, will be the release date for the game. Alpha testing is currently going on, and an EU server will be set up on March 30th.
Alpha will run until the Closed Beta testing begins on July 20th, 2021. Those who pre-order the game will have access to the closed beta.
Although the game has been delayed again, extra time to polish the game is always good. With Crucible's failure, many are wary of how New World will be. Per descriptions, the game does look interesting. I may end up pre-ordering it to try it out in the Closed Beta. But, with competitors like Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, New World needs to be an excellent game to survive in the MMO world.
We will see how it turns out!
