Friday night, Square Enix announced the next expansion for their massively popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV. It will be called Endwalker, and it will conclude the ten-year story of Final Fantasy XIV.
A bold move from producer Naoki Yoshida, but he could only do it.
This means that the expansion will end the story of the current Zodiark-Hydaelyn Saga, and starting on the first major patch of the Endwalker expansion, or patch 6.1, a whole new story arc will begin.
The tale of Hydaelyn and Zodiark that began in A Realm Reborn will reach its conclusion in #Endwalker!— FINAL FANTASY XIV (@FF_XIV_EN) February 6, 2021
Don't worry, our adventures in #FFXIV are far from over. As they say, the end of one story always leads to the beginning of another… pic.twitter.com/Wxyf26GEzT
Along with the announcement of the new expansion, we got a glimpse of a new class. It is called "Sage," and it is a healer. This will be the first healer class introduced since Astrologian was made available back in Heavensward.
Sages will wield a weapon that has been developed exclusively for Final Fantasy XIV. They are called "nouliths," and they are like flying wands that shoot lasers, shield and heal your allies, and look darn awesome!
As someone who mains Astrologian, this class intrigues me, although I will never give up maining the class that enjoys playing card games!
Along with Sage, it was mentioned that a new DPS class would be introduced. However, no known information has been given out about the class. We will most certainly learn more the closer we get to the expansion release.
Of course, a new expansion means new areas, duties, raids, and more! If you want to check out the announcement showcase, you can watch it over on YouTube.
Square Enix announced that the PlayStation 5 version of Final Fantasy XIV would be entering Open Beta on April 13th, 2021. The PlayStation 5 version of the game will support Full 4k resolution, significantly faster load times, and significantly increased frame rates. You can check out the trailer here.
Lastly, the next Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival was announced. However, this one will be all digital.
The Final Fantasy XIV Digital Fan Festival 2021 will run from Friday, May 14th to Saturday, May 15th. The event will be streamed online completely free of charge, and various activities will be available to participate in online. Head over to the official Fan Festival site for more information.
Whew, that is it for the announcements! I recently got back into Final Fantasy XIV, and I have a lot of catching up to do! I am excited about the new expansion, and I cannot wait to see how they will conclude the current story arc and what the next story will be!
