Originally, patch 5.3 was slated to be released in mid-June, bringing new content and story to the world of Eorzea. However, because of COVID-19, the patch will be delayed.

In a blog post from the Producer & Director, Naoki Yoshida, he states that,

"FFXIV relies heavily on our development and QA partners across the world, and at this point, we must accept that the situation will significantly impact our development schedule. The reasons for this are:

  • Delayed delivery of graphical assets due to the lockdown of cities in East Asia, North America, and Europe.
  • Delayed voice recording due to the lockdown of cities in Europe.
  • Delays to development tasks performed by Tokyo staff due to work-from-home/shelter-in-place limitations.
  • Production and QA teams operating well below normal capacity due to work-from-home/shelter-in-place limitations."

This, unfortunately, leads to a delay in the release of the 5.3 patch. Yoshida mentioned it could be anywhere from two weeks to a month, however, an official set date has not been announced.

You may have noticed that Final Fantasy XIV just got the 5.25 patch. This is thanks to everything being completed for the patch before all of the major issues COVID-19 has caused.

Hopefully, the COVID-19 pandemic does not continue to cause issues for gaming companies like Square Enix! Remember, stay safe!
