Fortnite developers, Epic Games, has announced a new feature that will help the game run better on lower-end computers. The new feature is called Performance Mode, and it is designed to boost FPS on computers that meet the minimum specifications for Fortnite.
Performance Mode is designed to significantly boost the performance of Fortnite at the sacrifice of visual quality. This allows the game to require a lower memory usage and lightens the load put on the CPU and GPU when playing. Here are some examples of the performance gain.
Users can opt into using it by going to the Video setting in-game and selecting "Performance" under the "Rendering Mode" section. Players who are already playing on older hardware may see a prompt pop up when playing the game, recommending that they try out the new setting.
Along with the new rendering mode's announcement, players can also save space on their computer's hard drive by being able to uninstall high-resolution textures. This will save approximately 14.5GB of space, bringing the game down to just above 17GB. This is a significant reduction from just a few months back!
If you wonder what the game will look like without high-resolution textures, you can check out the image below.
As you can see, removing the high-resolution textures is not for those that prefer graphics over performance. However, if you want to play Fortnite with the best performance possible on your hardware, this would be the best way to achieve that.
