Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will support in-game video chatting with the help of the Houseparty chat app. This integration will be available for both the PC and Playstation versions of the game.

The feature will begin rolling out to Houseparty iOS and Android users. To get it working with Fortnite, you will need to link your Houseparty account with your Epic Games account.

To get started, you need to set your phone up in a way that will catch your full face, as your phone will act as the webcam. Once done, you can create a chatroom with your friends. From there, all you need to do is fire up Fortnite and you will be able to chat with your friends while you are gaming!

To bring video chat into Fortnite, take these steps:

  • Open Houseparty on iOS or Android and Connect to Fortnite through Settings or the TV icon.
  • Join your friends like you normally would or invite them to join you
  • Fire up Fortnite on a PC or PlayStation
  • Continue talking to your friends while you play

Those who use this feature will have a Fortnite themed virtual background behind them while video chatting.

This is an interesting integration. Many games already have voice chat, but few have full-on video chatting. Although, with how the world is currently fighting off a pandemic, and many have not hung out with their friends in a while, being able to see each other's faces while playing your game may be what many need!
