MiHoYo's extremely popular Open-World RPG, Genshin Impact will be receiving its 1.2 update on December 23rd. Titled "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon," it will be the second major update to the game since its release. However, this is the first update to feature an addition to the game's world.

Map Expansion - Dragonspine

The new addition to the game, Dragonspine, features a frozen mountain range located south of Mondstadt. With it being an icy mountain range, you would think it would be a cold place to visit and explore, right? Well, it is!

With the addition of Dragonspine comes a new mechanic called the "Sheer Cold" bar. The new "Sheer Cold" bar will require that players keep their characters warm while in combat and exploration.

Along with introducing the new mechanic, the update will bring with it "unique creatures, a lost ancient civilization, bountiful ingredients, rare artifacts, and recipes for multiple 4-star weapons."

New Characters

Albedo is the new 5-star character that will be introduced when the new update releases. Albedo is a Geo user that wields a sword.

Ganyu is the second 5-star character that will be introduced in the new update. Ganyu appears to be a Cryo user that wields a bow.

Seasonal Event - The Chalk Prince and the Dragon

Along with the update, the next seasonal event will go live. Sharing the name with the title of the update, "The Chalk Prince and the Dragon" will be a seasonal event that will take place in Dragonspine.

"Travelers will join Albedo, the genius Chief Alchemist and Captain of the Investigation Team of Mondstadt's Knights of Favonius, to investigate a sword with mysterious power known as the Festering Desire. By participating in the seasonal event, players can not only obtain and fully refine the Festering Desire but also redeem rich rewards from the event shop, including the Crown of Insight."

Closing Thoughts

The new update looks like it will make the already great game even better! Unfortunately, I have not had much time to play Genshin Impact, mainly because I cannot play the game on my Shadow. When Shadow can work with miHoYo to get it working on the Cloud Gaming platform, you can bet that I will be playing it more often!

Genshin Impact is available to play on the PlayStation 4, PC, iOS, and Android. A Nintendo Switch port is also in development, and it is expected to be released in early 2021.
