ArenaNet, the developers of the popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2, has confirmed that the Steam release of the game has been indefinitely delayed. This announcement comes as ArenaNet shifts developer focus into the upcoming expansion, End of Dragons.
At the end of summer, we gave you a first look at the next Guild Wars 2 expansion, Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. We have been overwhelmed by the response. Delivering this next chapter in the Guild Wars® universe is our highest priority.
With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to put the Guild Wars 2 Steam release on hold for the time being. Our number one priority right now is crafting Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons with the high quality you expect and deserve. Additionally, we’re full speed ahead on delivering an epic climax to The Icebrood Saga that lives up to (and we hope exceeds) previous Living World finales.
The Steam release of the game was initially scheduled to release this month alongside the Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire expansions. However, this is no longer the case. The delay is indefinite, so we do not know when the game will come to Steam.
Although this may be disappointing for some hoping to play the game on Steam, you can still purchase the game directly from ArenaNet. Do note that if you buy the game on ArenaNet, your account will not be compatible with the Steam version of the game, but both ArenaNet and Steam will be sharing the same servers.
