How Shadow can extend the battery life of your Laptop

Today, many laptops are praised for their extended battery life. You have some laptops reaching upwards of 20 hours of battery life when watching media or doing typical productivity activities like checking your email and using your favorite word processor.

But what about gaming? Many laptops that boast these long battery life's are ultrabooks that do not have a dedicated graphics card and rely on the integrated cards.

Even gaming laptops boast 8+ hours of battery life when not gaming. Many of them require that your laptop be plugged in; otherwise, your performance suffers, or your laptop's battery drains faster than an unclogged drain.

This is because the external graphics card in your laptop, although being the mobile version of the card, still requires a fair bit of juice to run. And this is how you end up with low battery life when gaming.

But what if I told you that you could extend your laptop's battery life when gaming or doing work that requires high CPU/GPU usage?

The answer to this is... Shadow!

How Shadow can help with battery usage

So, if you are an avid reader of this blog, you may know that I use Shadow as my main Cloud Gaming platform of choice, as well as using it as my daily driver for productivity, work, and of course, gaming.

One of the best things I have gotten out of using Shadow is the ability to use my laptop longer while I am recording gameplay, editing a video, gaming, or any other demanding activity.

But, how can Shadow do this? Well, the answer is simple. Your Shadow client is pretty much just a video stream. So, you know all of those laptops that boast long battery life while watching videos? That same timeframe can now be used for Cloud Gaming, give or take 10%.

With Shadow being a video stream, your CPU/GPU will only have to use the necessary processing power to decode the stream that is being sent to your computer. Depending on your settings in your Shadow Launcher, this is either an H.264 stream or an H.265 stream.

That is a lot less demanding than that of a game that you are running on your laptop!

Final Thoughts

So, if you want to be able to use your computer for an extended time without needing to be tethered to a power cable, check out Shadow. It will allow you to run those hardware stressing applications while allowing your computer to last a lot longer.

It can also help assist with the overall life of the rechargeable battery in your laptop, as batteries degrade over time the more you need to charge them. The less you need to charge, the longer it will live!

So, why not give Shadow a try?
