Kim Swift, the former director of Game Design at Google Stadia, has been scooped up by Microsoft. Swift will be joining Xbox Game Studios as the Senior Director of Cloud Gaming.

For those who do not know, Kim Swift has worked on many major games, most notably, Portal and Left 4 Dead.

In an interview with Polygon, Peter Wyse, the head of Xbox Game Studios Publishing, said that "Kim is going to build a team focused on new experiences in the cloud, something that’s going to support our mission of bringing our Xbox games to connect 3 billion gamers to play our games."

This is an interesting hire by Microsoft, but it shows that they are definitely putting some work towards cloud gaming. With Google shuttering its first-party game development studios for Stadia, it does not leave many cloud gaming services with its own first-party games.

Microsoft seems to be one of the few left. This hire shows their focus on cloud gaming, and they appear to be on a journey to help developers build cloud-native games. Although, Microsoft did state that they do not "know exactly what that looks like today, or what that even plays like." But it is good news for cloud gamers out there!
