League of Legends is probably one of the most popular games with successful esport leagues spread throughout the world. To be exact, League of Legends has 12 different leagues spread across the globe.
Riot Games decided that they wanted to make the League of Legends esports brand more accessible globally, instead of each league having its own fanbase. Their solution? To do a complete rebrand of League of Legends esports and focus on bringing all of the leagues together under one governing body.
The rebrand sports a simplistic version of League of Legends iconic map, Summoner's Rift, and the name "LoL Esports." The rebrand's goal is to tie the different leagues together so that information on the leagues can be accessed more globally than they are now.
Along with the rebrand, LoL Esports will be hosting three new video series:
- Weekly Rundown - A weekly summary of competitive highlights and developments from teams and players.
- The Penta - Features the top five plays from around the world each week.
- Champ Select - A biweekly show that will feature a variety of guests who will advocate standout players from their regional leagues.
These shows will start airing this week and hopefully increase the visibility of the different leagues throughout the world.
We want to bring esports to billions of people. It might seem crazy, but it starts with building a thriving global esports ecosystem supported by electrifying competition, sustainable growth, cutting-edge tech, bold entertainment and a focus on integrity for our teams and the sport.
Intending to bring esports to more people globally, Riot has a lot of challenges to overcome. Still, with League of Legends having the largest esports following, they will be the ones to accomplish this goal.
