Cloud Gaming is slowly gaining popularity. Initially launching in mainly American and European markets, cloud gaming is gradually making its way throughout the world.
During the Xbox Showcase at on the Tokyo Game Show 2020 Stream, Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, stated that Microsoft's cloud gaming service, xCloud, will be coming to Japan as part of the Xbox Game Pass. Only recently did Microsoft launch the Xbox Game Pass in Japan. Since its April launch, the Xbox Game Pass in Japan has had an enormous increase in subscribers, marking it the first time Microsoft has seen such an increase in use for Xbox devices and services in that market.
Phil Spencer then mentions that the Japanese market will be able to take advantage of cloud gaming in early 2021. But, Microsoft does have competition in Japan. Being the home to Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft will have to be aggressive in winning over gamers in the country.
This announcement is the second market that Microsoft has there eyes set on to release cloud gaming in. First, it was the Australian market, and now Japan.
Hopefully, this pushes other Cloud Gaming platforms to fast-track their rollouts to Asian countries as well.
