Starting June 9th, Need for Speed Heat will be getting cross-play support on the PlayStation 4, Windows PC (both Steam and Origin), and Xbox One. Criterion Games, the development team that has taken over the Need for Speed franchise, announced that cross-play would be supported and that Tuesday's update will be the final update for the game.
This update makes Need for Speed Heat the first game published by EA Games to feature cross-play multiplayer.
Once the update is available to download tomorrow, you will be able to access the ability to opt-in to race players across all platforms. You can even search for friends to add to the new EA Friends tab, which will give you the option to play with those you have added.
Criterion has also started developing the next Need for Speed game. In a blog post over at the Need for Speed official website, "As we at Criterion shift gears into the future with full focus on developing the next Need for Speed game, this will be the final update for Need for Speed Heat. Since the launch of Need for Speed Heat and as players continue to tear it up in Palm City, we're listening to what you love about this experience, and what you all believe could be even better. With these insights, we have a terrific foundation to create the most expressive, most socially connected, action-packed game yet for Need for Speed fans and beyond."
