Phantasy Star Online 2 was released to PC via the Windows Store not too long ago. When the game launched in the US, we were given Episodes 1-3 right away. Recently, Sega released an updated roadmap. This allowed us to know when we can expect the next updates to land in the US.
Well, come August 5th, Episode 4 will be rolling out. Alongside the update, you will now be able to download and play the game through Steam. This is excellent news as this will allow the game to reach more people, and you do not have to suffer from using the Windows Store anymore!
With the game launching on Steam, they are also giving away some Steam launch rewards. Players can get a Headcrab Emote for logging into the game via Steam. If you complete a quest on Casual or Normal difficulty, you will get Half-Life's Alyx's hair and a Pyro's gas mask. If you complete any quest on Hard or Hardcore mode at least two times, you can score yourself Gordon Freeman's crowbar weapon camo, a Left 4 Dead frying pan weapon camo, and a Team Fortress 2 minigun weapon camo, and a Wheatley Evolution Device. Completing any quest on Very Hard or higher at least three times will get you an HEV Suit. Finally, if you complete any Super Hard or higher quest at least four times, you will get the Alyx Replica.
The game, being eight years old and only recently released in the US, has a large fan base, and Sega also has a lot of big plans for the game and the franchise. In fact, it was recently announced that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be launching in 2021. A game that will co-exist alongside PSO2, and will be set 1,000 years in the future.
I am excited for the game to release on Steam. I tried playing it through the Windows Store, and I just ran into too many problems.
Are you excited for the Steam release of PSO2?
