The upcoming 4X game developed by Amplitude Studios, HUMANKIND, will be coming to Stadia. Better yet, the game will be coming to Stadia with support for Stadia's brand new touch control method, "direct touch."
Before this addition, Stadia has only two available control inputs for their games. Connecting a controller or a keyboard and mouse, and for mobile players, the option of a touch screen controller.
With "direct touch," games can now utilize touch screen inputs and gestures without relying on an overlayed controller. This will allow you to select something in-game, on the screen, move the camera around, etc.
According to 9to5Google, "Stadia has to calculate where your finger presses are relative to the video stream and send that information back to the cloud server."
It will be interesting to see how Stadia's new touch-screen function will handle the latency of touch inputs. Touch inputs are known for having increased latency. With cloud gaming, where every millisecond counts, hopefully, the delay between your finger touching the screen to the actual input being registered on the game is not too bad.
If you would like to use the new "direct touch" controls, you can do so next week when HUMANKIND launches. All you need to do is launch the game without a controller connected, and Stadia will ask if you want to use the new direct touch controls.
HUMANKIND will also support Stadia's State Share technology, allowing you to "Leave Your Mark" for others.
For HUMANKIND, the State Share tech will automatically save any challenges completed, memory events, archeological sites left behind, and much more into a State Share link that you can share with others.
When utilizing this State Share link, you can create a new game using the same seed as your State Shared game. This will allow you to play a new game with your previous achievements and additions available to find as well.
HUMANKIND will be available to play on August 17th and is currently available for pre-order now!
