It has been nearly two months since the global release of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis. The game is downright beautiful and a much-needed revision to the game that many have come to love.

But, did you know there is a cloud version of the game available on the Nintendo Switch and PC? Unless you live in Japan, you probably did not.

Alongside the global release on June 9th, 2021, Sega released Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Cloud for players in Japan.

The cloud version of the game utilizes technology offered by Cloud Gaming tech experts, Ubitus, and it allows the game to be run on the Nintendo Switch and offers PC players another way to play the game.

Ubitus also provided the same cloud gaming tech for the original cloud version of Phantasy Star Online 2, making this a continued partnership between the two companies.

“We are thrilled to work with SEGA again. The fans’ interest in “PSO2:NGS” was overwhelming, after the game’s initial exposure at the Xbox Game Showcase last year. We are very pleased to support SEGA in bringing “PSO2:NGS CLOUD” to the market on time for the “PSO” franchise’ 20th anniversary. Ubitus will continue to bring more exciting games their fans through cloud distribution around the world.” - Wesley Kuo, the CEO of Ubitus

Utilizing the cloud version of the game will only take up around 40MB of storage on your Nintendo Switch, and for PC players, only around 100MB.

Using this technology, Sega is able to offer the game to more than just PC players and reach players on aging hardware that otherwise would not run the standard version of the game.

You can check out some screenshots of the game below. Otherwise, the cloud version is currently only available in Japan, but if you would like to play PSO2:NGS, you can head over to Sega's website and download it!
