According to Blizzard, more than 3.7 million copies of the expansion were sold on the first day of launch. This beats out the previous record, which was also held by a Blizzard game, of 3.5 million copies sold for Diablo 3.
Blizzard states that the numbers provided were from "sales and/or downloads, based on internal company records and reports from key distributors."
Some pretty nice numbers!
According to Gameindustry.biz, Blizzard states that the Shadowlands expansion brought with it "some of the strongest engagement figures the game has posted in the past decade."
"The game reached and has sustained its highest number of players on monthly or longer-term subscriptions compared to the same period ahead of and following any WoW expansion in the past decade, in both the West and the East."
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands was initially slated to be released on October 27th but was delayed until November 23rd. It is available to play on the PC, and it is the eighth expansion of the long-running MMORPG.
