Genshin Impact has the biggest global launch for a Chinese game

MiHoYo's popular free-to-play open-world RPG, Genshin Impact, has set the bar for Chinese game developers. According to the South China Morning Post, Genshin Impact "marks the biggest international launch of a Chinese game in history." On launch day alone, the game surpassed over 110,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, beating out Epic Games' Fortnite.

The game, which launched for the PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, and PC on September 28th, has attracted an enormous player base. The game itself had over 5.3 million pre-registrations outside of China, and it has already become the second highest-grossing app on the iOS App Store in China, second only to ByteDance's Douyin, the sister app of TikTok. On the iOS App Store alone, the game has grossed nearly $2 million. The game itself had a budget of around $100 million for development and marketing.

The game has been compared to the Nintendo masterpiece, Breath of the Wild, but it is not the same. Although it does show its influences, the game is different, with its own unique story and unique aspects.

Personally, Genshin Impact has taken up what little free time I have. It still surprises me knowing that I did not pay anything for such a great game, and the game itself has not tried to through advertisements in my face to purchase in-game currency. In fact, the characters that you are given throughout the story are already pretty good and can give you the ability to do almost everything in the game.

If you have not tried out Genshin Impact, I highly recommend it!
