During the Xbox Games Showcase on July 23rd, Sega announced that their massively popular MMORPG game, Phantasy Star Online 2, will be getting a rather major facelift.
The game, titled Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, will be a redesign of the current game. It will include new visuals, a brand new game engine, new gameplay mechanics, and much more.
New Genesis will be an entirely new game that will "co-exist" with the current Phantasy Star Online 2. You will be able to play your character on both games; however, your progress will be reset on New Genesis, and only paid currency will be shared between games. However, you will be able to use the same weapons, Mags, and units, as those will carry over to the new game.
Sega did assure fans that the original PSO2 will not be abandoned and that the original game will be getting a graphical upgrade as well. Both games will share the same free-to-play gameplay model. You can watch the follow-up trailer below.
The game will be released for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021. In Japan, it will be available for PC, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch.
